A setback brings perspective
I have my first official gain since joining BuddySlim - 1.5 pounds. I’m not happy about it, of course, but I’m keeping it in perspective. I’m sure it’s just a temporary wake-up call from the Wisconsin trip, which was as reported an exercise in portion out-of-control and snacking. Despite the fact that I kept to my gluten free plan, I know I can’t eat anything I want to and not see scale repercussions. So it is what it is… and next week it will be gone. I assure you.
For the rest of my Thanksgiving Walking Challenge, I will commit to the following:
1. No alcohol. This should be easy for me as I rarely drink, except in Wisconsin it seems.
2. Eating at the kitchen table only. I have gotten sloppy on this lately - eating at the computer while I do other things for example. I do best when I make a meal out of it and focus on it. I suspect this leads to mindless eating that by definition I am not even aware of.
3. Rededication to the Food Journal. I did that for a few weeks but I stopped. It seems to help me so I will go back to it. I will also plan my food before hand as well as report it afterwards.
4. Finish eating for the day by 7pm, which will be a good testament to how well I am planning and executing on my food.
5. Focus on the other aspects of the Eat Right For Your Blood Type diet, beyond the gluten-free, casein-free rules.
I’m happy to have a written plan again! It helps me so much. I wonder why I forget it so easily? It just seems to happen. I think I get lazy and I have to remember that I need to be fully engaged in this process or else I will not see the success I’m working so hard for. I work out so much, so hard, so well… but it all is for naught if I don’t work a food plan at the same time. And I mean work it, not just do it.
You are all wonderful buddies. Thank you so much for providing me a safe place to be myself and to learn from you all. I am truly blessed to have you in my life.
Ellen
Good Morning Ellen,
Just learn from the slip up and move on.
Sure sounds like you have an awesome plan there.
Having a plan makes such a huge difference.
Have a great day back on plan Ellen

Lori
Sounds like a good plan to me. Positive thinking and actions will get you to the right place next week.
I think sometimes we need to see some gain to snap out of routine and become vigilant again. This is how we gained weight on a first place. But when we were gaining weight, we did not stop and did not analyze what was going on. We just continued… and stayed in denial until the numbers on the scale screamed in our faces… in huge digits. 1.5 lbs is a nudge in the right direction.
I am happy for you having a plan and taking a thoughtful break today to learn what went wrong and what you can do to improve your weight loss journey.

Ellen, I just love the rule of eating at the table only. That is one I need to adopt for myself. No worries. I gained 1.3 lbs at my doctors appointment. So I am right there with you too. You will do great. You are the best.
Good morning, Ellen. It’s great that you are looking at this in the correct perspective. It is merely a wakeup call. If you are going to be working your buns off exercising, you might as well see some results! Great job re-dedicating yourself to your goal. BTW, I loved what you said about this being a safe place to be yourself. I think that is important to us all!
Ellen, the food journal has really seemed to help me. It is time consuming. You will bounce back, I am confident of that. Kudos to refocusing. Have a happy day!

I love your list. Now give it all you got. There have been many times I have written a similar list and then not followed through. I like how you say you need to get fully engaged in this process because I believe that one big time. If we give our plan of action alot of effort, then our plan gives back to us with alot of results. If we give our plan of action little effort, we’ll see little results. And I do think food and exercise go hand in hand. Have a great day!
This was just a wake up call. You can get it off no time, just put that list to work! You can do it!

Love it! When all else goes by the wayside, back to basics. Love your plan. It’s good to have a plan. Keeps us grounded and focused.
I also love your attitude. You took this little weight gain and instead of letting is defeat you, you logically thought it out… perspective. LOVE IT!
Hugggggggggggs,
Shan

I say: Right back at you Ellen. You inspire and motivate me and make me feel good when it takes some real instrospection on my part. So thank YOU for being such a good and supportive friend.
I have decided that one of my many rewards for reaching goal, is to travel accross the United States and Canada, to meet the wonderful people who have supported me in this journey! I guess I better start saving my pennies, huh?
Now about the plan…it seems like Jen, you and I are/were in serious need of a thought-out and concrete plan. I think as we go along on this journey, we tend to get comfortable and laxed and lose focus…and gain weight.
I too gained, but more than you. And instead of beating myself up about it, like I normally would, I decided to take things in stride and take advantage of the opportunity to learn something new.
So here’s what I learned: It’s NEVER a good idea to skip a weigh-in and when you feel like slipping and sliding, GO BACK TO BASICS. Seems like Jen, you and I realized we have to go back to basics to reach our goals.
And finally, I invite you to hold eachother’s hands during these next 5 weeks and stay on plan NO MATTER WHAT, so we can see some success at the scale.
LET’S DO THIS ELLEN!!
Those sound like some great “rules”…I have decided to start my food journal again today..it was a life saver and I can’t understand why I ever stopped using it…
Best of luck!!!!

For some reason, I rebel against rules. They don’t work at all for me. I’m too free-wheeling, I guess. But whatever works for you is the best way!
Hey don’t sweat the weight, I bet it is just water weight, and the actual weight of the food. I find that when I eat out of control, my weight can go up 2 or 3 pounds in a day. I am sure it has to be something. I didn’t eat 3500 calories x 3. You are doing totally fantastic!!!!
I have noticed that since I haven’t been drinking wine this week (not even trying not to drink, just don’t feel like it!) I have lost weight. I am sure that not drinking helped a lot.
